The Voronezh public offers to found a chess club named after V.P. Zagorovsky, numerous champion of the world on correspondence, on the base of already of which is available premise to the address:. Voronezh, F. Engels street, 34. V.P. Zagorovsky (born on June 29, 1925 - died on November 6, 1994). Was born in the family of the well-known psychologist and writer, professor of the Voronezh Pedagogical institute P. Zagorovsky (born 1892 - died1952). 

The biography of the master totals many interesting pages, but we would like to stop at the basic stages of his life.

V.P. Zagorovsky began to play chess when he was 4. He has learned to play himself, observing the game of the father and senior brother Michael (who later became an international master). In 1941 at the age of 15 became the champion of the city of Voronezh.

In 1943 - 1945  - a cadet of the Leningrad military school of communication (Uralsk town).

In 1947 - candidate master of sports in chess.

In 1947 - 1950 - a radio engineer of the Guards artillery regiment (Vyborg town).

In 1948 - master of sports of the USSR. 

In 1950 - 1954  - senior radiotechnician and then radioengineer of the communication center of a General staff of the Soviet Army (Moscow).

In 1951 - a chess champion of the Armed Forces of the USSR.

In 1951 - the second place in the championship of Moscow.

In1952 - a champion of Moscow (outstripped such grossmasters of chess as Kotov,  Liliantal and Flor).

In 1954 back from army in a rank of the captain he moved from Moscow to his native Voronezh town. By this time he graduated distinction the historical faculty of the Voronezh state Pedagogical institute by carrespondence and he decided to devote himself to historical science as well as to chess.

In 1954 - a teacher of history of school ¹ 15 of Voronezh.

In 1954 - 1957 - a post-graduate student of the faculty of history of USSR of the Pedagogical institute and then Voronezh State university

In 1958 - 1970  - a teacher, a senior teacher, then senior lecturer of the faculty of history of the VSU.

In 1958 - 1965 - a champion of the Voronezh region 7 times in succession.

In 1961 - defended the candidate dissertation in Leningrad, has received a scientific degree of the candidate of historical sciences.

In 1963 - headed the official chess delegation of the USSR during us of 3 month visit to China.

In 1965 - chesschampion of the world by correspondence (the 4-th championship of the world in 1962 - 1965), international master.

In 1966 - a winner of the tournament of master at the international chess festival in Havre (France).

In 1967 - a participant of the final of the 25-th championship of the USSR.

In 1969 - he defended the doctor's dissertation in Voronezh, received the scientific degree of the doctor of historical sciences.

In 1969 - a champion of the Voronezh region.

In 1970 - 1992 - a professor and head of the chair of history of the USSR of VSU.

In 1971 - the second place in the championship of the world by correspondence.

In 1974 - the 3-th place in the chesschampionship of the world by correspondence.

In 1975 - 1991 - a vice-president Chess federation.

In 1979 - a gold medal for the first - second places in chesschampionship of the world by correspondence.

In 1979 - a champion of the Voronezh region.

In 1981 - 1991 - a chairman of council of competitions of Chess Federation USSR by correspondence.

In 1992 - 1994 - a professor of the faculty of the history of Russia of VSU.

In 1992 - an honoured master of sports of Russia. Zagorovsky was keen both in chess and historical research. He did not give preference to one of these kinds of activity. He received intellectual pleasure both from chess game and from scientific research. Zagorovsky was always open and easy in personal contact with readiness he gave his knowledge and skill to other people. Zagorovsky's children continued family tradition of creative scientific and pedagogical activity. He's daughter Olga Zagorovsky is a doctor of philological sciences, professor, head of the faculty of Russian Language institute. He's son - Urey Zagorovsky - is a doctor of historical sciences.

V.P. Zagorovsky is a historian of a wide encyclopaedic knowledge, an expert in the history of Russia XVI - XVII centuries, in the history of Russian Chernozemia region, author more then 200 scientific works. Infortunatly the creating the chess club named after Zagorovsky in Voronezh, Engels street, 34 has not caused understanding on the part of the administration of the city but we do not lose hope, that validity will triumph.
